Small Orange/Red Label, RCA Victor Stamped Logo (1969)

RCA had decided to implement major changes, with the first being the phasing out of the familiar black label. We had seen the evolution from the large Silver Dot logo of the fifties to the small silver dot and then the red dot of the sixties. The logos changed but the label colour was consistent. Now with the seventies approaching, the company had visioned a new design, the smaller orange label. They radically changed the logo by introducing a "computerised stamped" RCA Victor logo. It was business as usual with Decca still pressing their product until the end of 1969, when CBS would hold the fort, until RCA themselves were in complete control. This would occur with the introduction of their own UK pressing plant opening for business in 1970.

ALBUM DELETIONS: (April 1969)

To coincide with the introduction of their new orange label and the upcoming opening of their own UK pressing plant, RCA decided to update their entire catalogue by deleting many of their older Decca releases. This was an operation that lasted over eighteen months, starting in April. The process began with mostly stereo soundtrack LP's and various stereo studio albums. The plan was to re-issue them later, with new catalogue numbers and in some cases new sleeves. Some mono albums were still re-pressed using the same catalogue number until they too were eventually deleted. (Vinyl below depicts the last releases before deletion)
